Feedings
The first part of the installation (June 16-22, 2023) consists of geometric lines painted on a fabric panel. The work is a hand painted infographic, recording an entire week of breastfeeding sessions. This particular panel focuses on the second week of my daughter’s life: Each coloured bar represents a breastfeeding unit, each column a day. “What gets counted counts,” said feminist geographer Dr. Joni Seager. Here, the private experience is analysed and translated into a visual set of scientific data, which exposes the demands of care work and unpaid labour, when feeding a newborn.
